Pendle Hill

Follow the witches up this slightly challenging mini mountain

Overview

Pendle Hill is famous for its witches. Whether you have visited Lancaster or Clitheroe Castle and heard about them, or have just been in the area on Halloween, you know about this area's magical past. From Barley, you can adventure around the witches trail or take a couple of routes up Pendle. One is from the bottom to the top on a windy route, takes around 4-5 hours. If you are feeling adventurous, you can take the more direct route, with a lot of stairs to get those glutes working!.

Another option would be to use the Sabden Road and park at the top car park and hike from there. This is about a 2.5 hour round-trip walk, and whilst it does have some steep inclines, it is much more gradual than the others from Barley and not as long as the top to bottom option! To note, this route does take you on a very narrow, almost sheep trail that has been commandeered by humans. It does eventually turn into a flagstone path, to keep you out of the bog!

There are no bins on the Sabden side. The carpark at Barley should have some but you will be carrying the poo bags for a while!

Be aware that sheep are plentiful on Pendle Hill, so if your pooch is a chaser, keep them on the lead. The distance and time spent walking should mean you tire your pooch out anyway, even on the lead!
