Dog-friendly pub on the Tolkein Trail
J. R. R. Tolkien worked at Stoneyhurst College during World War II and as such, you'd find it hard to not compare the Ribble Valley to Middle-earth. In the centre of this world is Hurst Green and the Shireburn Arms. Built in the 17th century as a hostelry for the weary traveller, the Shireburn Arms has kept all of its charm.
Part of the James' Places group, this multi-functional pub does it all, from weddings and functions to dog-friendly short breaks (just let them know when you're booking).
Walking along the Tolkien Trail to immerse yourself in the world of Bilbo Baggins isn't half bad, either.
