Explore the grounds of this century old castle

Overview

First things first - you can only take your pooch around the grounds of Muncaster Castle. You cannot go in the castle building itself or the hawk and owl aviary. However, there is a dog viewing area for the World of Owls flying display, which is part of the ticket price. The ticket price includes access to all of these attractions, whether you go in them or not so keep that in mind when you go and pay (though dogs get in for free).

The grounds themselves are excellent. There is plenty of room to wander and there are numerous trails you can take across the 70 acres for dogs to explore. There are water bowls placed at various points and the café is dog friendly, too, so they can sit by your side as you enjoy a hot drink and cake.

During the wet winter months, take sensible footwear as the trails can become muddy underfoot. Dogs must be kept on a lead when in the grounds.

If you are happy to miss out on the castle itself, then this is a great place for the whole family, including the pooch, as you can take it in turns to visit the aviary and see the birds, as well as watch the bird show. Kids will have fun on the various play areas, and there is an interesting meadowvole maze to explore.

Check with Muncaster Castle for the current opening times.
