Stay right on the beach in these stylish lodges
If you want a beach holiday, you'll struggle to find somewhere better to stay than Bournemouth Beach Lodges. On the Boscombe beach side of the Bournemouth coast, these lodges are as close to the beach as you can be.
The accommodation is clean and modern with a front desk lodge open for daytime enquiries (9-5). Car access to the lodges is restricted via a barrier on the promenade, which is only open for certain check in and check out times through the week. Parking is available at Boscombe Pier with a permit, or on Boscombe Overcliff Drive on the road, the latter being at the top of a zig zag.
There is a land train to ferry you from the lodges to Bournemouth pier and back. There are various stops along the way, including the local gardens and Boscombe town centre. You get free tickets as a guest, but out of season it misses stops, and in the dead of winter it doesn't run at all.
As said above, the beach is right on your doorstep. However, check the time of year as in peak season, dogs are not allowed on a lot of the beach, even on a lead. But in off-peak season this isn't a problem. Prices vary widely by season, with predictably the winter being the cheapest time to go.
As you can imagine, the lodges get full of sand quite quickly, especially with a dog (and we suspect with kids too). Be prepared to always have sand in your shoes for your stay.
Downstairs, the lodges are spacious and well thought out, though the bench seating (which can turn into a bed) can become uncomfortable. Upstairs is a different matter. Be prepared to be hunched over doing anything as they are directly in the roof of the lodge, which doesn't have a great deal of headroom. You won't be able to stand up straight up there unless you are under 5 feet tall.
There are a few dog-friendly restaurants within walking distance, so you will be able to take your furry friend out for the evening.
