Arthur's Seat is located in the heartland of democracy and politics for Scotland. You have the Scottish Parliament at the foot of the parkland and across from that, the Queen's residence. You can easily envision a politician looking to Arthur's Seat for inspiration.
Politics aside, having this in the middle of Edinburgh is quite amazing. Arthur's Seat sits in Holyrood Park, with paths and wildlife all around. The actual walk up Arthur's Seat is quite steep in places and very muddy in the wetter periods, so sensible footwear is a must all year round.
Due to its location, Arthur's Seat has become something of a tourist trap, and on certain days, you might struggle to find your own space on the main paths to the top. However, there are other circular paths around that can take you on lovely walks with less foot traffic on them. Some of the routes are more, shall we say, 'adventurous', than others (you are climbing an extinct volcano, after all), so don't do more than you and your pooch can handle.
Be aware that there is a main road running around the park, so keep an eye on your furry friend when nearing the bottom.
