Visit the land of potatoes
Despite its name, there don't appear to be any potatoes around Spud Wood. Apparently, in a former life, this was a ripe potato field, but we doubt that you would be finding any Maris Piper's around here at the moment.
Whilst the site is 43 acres, it feels relatively small, with the entire circumference taking you less than hour to tour. However, there are plenty of trails criss crossing the wood, and you can walk down the Bridgewater canal, taking you from Leigh, through Manchester and out to Runcorn. They are currently making the canal accessible all the way for pedestrians and cyclists, so you should soon be able to explore the canal's entire 39 miles.
There is a small car park at the canal side, which can get full pretty quickly, though you can also park on the road beside it (this is a country road so you are parking at your own risk). There are picnic benches near the canal, with bins located at the car park and nowhere else.
Part of the Woodland Trust, you can buy a tree from them online and have it dedicated in Spud Wood - a great way to remember a pooch or someone special.
