A great walk around the lovely grounds of Quarry Bank

Overview

Quarry Bank Mill is part of the National Trust's collection of sites. Dogs aren't permitted inside the house and gardens (like so many of the National Trust properties), but delightfully enough, if you are just going for a walk with the dog, it is free to enter into the grounds (very much unlike some National Trust properties).

You wander past the house and gardens and straight away you can see the start of the trail. It take you past a little dam and you follow the river. Even in very hot summers, there is plenty of marsh/bog land so be aware of that if letting the dog off the lead (a towel for your car would be greatly advised!), but your pooch will love splashing in the river after going elbow deep in the mud.

Be aware that at the end of one of the trails, it leads you straight onto a road, so keep an eye on your pooch.

In the actual house grounds, your pooch needs to be on a lead, but there are water bowls around the café. They are not allowed in the café, but you can certainly buy inside and take out for a picnic.

Opening times vary by season so check before visiting.
